How AI Shapes My Learning: A Reflection on Its Impact and Future Potential

Image
1. How I use AI I used ChatGPT as a structural and creative writing aid for a group blog. Our group brainstormed and came up with preliminary ideas about the challenges Chinese students face while adapting to a student-centred learning culture first. We then utilized ChatGPT to generate in-depth explanations and examples, which helped me to construct the main arguments. ChatGPT was also used to suggest different outlines, allowing me to choose a logical flow that made my writing clearer and more persuasive. In addition, ChatGPT helped me to improve my language by suggesting alternative words and sentence structures, helping me to maintain a balance between academic and accessible. As Holmes, Bialik, and Fadel (2019) noted, AI can also be used as a supporting peer to improve the quality of written communication, especially for non-native English speakers like me. 2. The value AI brings The value of AI goes far beyond scholarly work. In daily life, AI technology has become an indispensab...

Reflecting on My Design Choices: From Confusion to Confidence in Supporting Chinese Students in UK Student-Centred Learning

Image
1. Introduction Our project team blog "Supporting Chinese students to adapt to UK student-centred learning" will enable Chinese students to make a smooth transition into the UK higher education system. The student-centred learning method in the UK emphasizes active learning, group discussion and critical thinking, and requires students to give their own opinions. It is very different from China's traditional teacher-centred education method, which emphasizes knowledge transfer and discipline management (Montgomery, 2010). We want to help students understand these new learning requirements and positively react to the new culture of learning by creating a learning material that is not just easy to understand but also supportive. 2.  Identifying the Problem When we brainstormed, we understood that the primary issue was not merely the language, but also a lack of exposure to the student-centred approach to learning. In China, challenging teachers, sharing one's own opinio...

Student-centred learning is a modern educational strategy which is focused on the learner's place at the center of learning. It is interested in students' differences, interests and learning styles, and encourages students to construct knowledge by active participation, cooperative learning and critical thinking. According to this concept, the role of the teachers has been significantly changed: they are no longer information distributors but mentors, resources providers and facilitators of learning, commit...

Design Thinking in Education: Bridging Theory and Practice

Image
Commonly associated with technological and business innovation, design thinking is revolutionising education by reshaping how teachers design learning. Explicated in Chapter 6: Design Thinking and Learning Design by Matt Bower as a "creative, scientific, and complex process" to solve "ill-structured problems" through iterative and user-centred methods, this view was echoed in the NotebookLM podcast, highlighting flexibility, collaboration, and technology integration. Critically reviewing involves an in-depth analysis rather than just summarizing. Design thinking is defined as a solution-oriented, user-centred, iterative process with prototyping, tolerance of ambiguity, and continuous learning (Bower, 2017). The article critiques pedagogical design models like Laurillard's (2012) Conversational Framework and Siemens' (2005) Learning Development Cycle, arguing they need to balance structure and contextual adaptability. The blog host shared similar values—solut...

Using TPACK: Empowering Teachers in the Digital Age

Image
As education increasingly moves into the digital realm, teachers are at the intersection of pedagogy, technology and subject knowledge. The TPACK model is a robust framework that highlights where teachers can integrate technology into practice.  This blog will examine the key concepts and practical illustrations of the TPACK framework together with audio recordings about TPACK , and provide my personal thoughts on NotebookLM, a research assistant for AI. This graphic was created by AI and reflects a discussion of online learning and the TPACK model. 1. Introduction of TPACK TPACK is a pedagogical framework that centers on the three most important capabilities (CK, PK and TK) teachers must become skilled in the age of technology and that can be organically combined to further improve the quality of instruction in the classroom (Mishra & Koehler, 2006). Article link The three core components of TPACK (1) Content knowledge (CK) Refers to the deep knowledge of the teacher regardin...
